Once upon a time there was a boy in the east of Colombia that had a beautiful dream in his small mind. The child wanted to succeed in his country specially to help people. At the beginning he didn’t know what to do to accomplish this mission. Consequently, he started to think about that situation. While he was thinking about that, he spent his time at school getting information to make his dream a reality. Therefore, he studied science, math, social studies and many other areas that helped him to find his way to succeed. Although, he really loved studying all of those subjects none of them meet his expectations. At that period of his life boy was just eight years old.
By the time he was in primary school he discovered something brilliant and really exciting that he hadn’t noticed before but that had been there when he was younger. English was that marvelous subject and from that pleasant memory he remembered the situations he had experienced related to it when he was in kindergarten. He remembered that his teacher, who was a young woman, showed him many pictures with the name in English and then she asked for repetition, so he and his classmates said again those words. Finally, he remembered that he felt really comfortable with his teacher and the environment of the classroom and his buddies.
That memory from kindergarten made a real change in his life as he started to perceive English as his favorite subject and the tool which would help him to succeed. Consequently, he began to pay more attention to their English teachers. Most of his primary school was marked just by one place except from the last year. The first four years English was given by a young woman, just like kindergarten. The boy felt really pleasant with that woman since she was a very loving teacher with him and his classmates. The teacher of that child asked for a book to practice English everyday. That book was awesome because it has so many beautiful pictures with amusing activities to develop. So, that boy really enjoyed his English classes because of the affection of his teacher, the use of appropriate materials and the environment of the classroom which was very comfortable with enough light and room for everybody. The last year of the primary school of his amazing boy was almost the same as his previous ones due to the fact that he really enjoyed everything too, specially his English classes.
The things changed for that boy as he began to grow up faster and that implied to him starting a new step in his race called “high school”. In high school everything was different as there were new people, new teachers, new strategies, new, new…. (everything new) At the beginning of that new challenge the boy was quite nervous because he had to face a new reality. However, few days passed and he started to feel more relaxed with the environment of that strange and huge place, he made some really good friends and reincorporated in his mind his feeling to succeed again. As a result, he made a great effort in all of the subjects, especially in his favorite one. Furthermore, he was in all courses one of the best students for that reason most of the teachers congratulate him by his goals. The learning of English during that time in the boy’s life was marked by different stages and different teachers. In sixth grade he had a very nice teacher who was blonde and mature. She was a very professional teacher because she used technology in her classes and a strict discipline to control her students. The boy thought that she was a great teacher since she was a very loving person, delicate, sophisticated, trust worthy and very very responsible with her subject and her students. “He loved her”. At that time the teacher also asked the boy for having a book to practice English. The boy considered that the book was fantastic as it has some comics, really nice pictures, interesting stories and many other awesome things.
In seventh grade things changed again since the boy met a new English teacher who was very strict and severe in her subject. The teacher was a mature woman who wore glasses and elegant dresses. She taught the boy many grammatical aspects of the English language because that was her main approach and those things were very useful for the boy. The teen believed that she was a good teacher since she had appropriate classroom management, enough knowledge and a positive way to transmit it.
After seventh grade the boy got a very nice present represented in a continuous English course at private institute. This experience meant for that guy a very wonderful tool to make his dream a reality. The boy learned a lot of things from that course and had a lot of fun learning and sharing with classmates. The strategies the course used for his students scenically depended on each teacher although there were some general ones like developing a final project and a series of exams in which they evaluated all the necessary skills to comprehend a language. The child got good grades in that course; really enjoyed but one day he couldn’t continue studying since he had many other important things to do to get his dream.
In eighth and ninth grade there was a changing too, there were a new teacher who was a mature woman too with different ideas of teaching. That educator was a very pleasant person because he was very respectful and patient with her students. However, she had a strong lack of classroom management and for that reason she could not give her subject as she wished. Nonetheless, the boy learned some things from her; he learned many tips in learning a new language, take dictation and vocabulary.
Finally, in tenth and eleventh grade the teacher was another person but with the same feature; a mature woman. This woman had modern thoughts about teaching English since he had fresh ideas such as developing debates, collaborative learning, presentations about interesting topics and many other things that made the boy use English in real situations, she was strict too, but the boy discovered that she was a little bit irresponsible with her subject and her students since they liked not to come to class frequently. By this time the boy is seventeen years old which means that he is a teenager with a lot of expectations and a strong feeling to succeed in the competitive world.
The race of that boy, who became a teenager, was converted into a difficult way to follow because he had to face a new challenge but more difficult and demanding. The university represents that new challenge. Currently, the teenager is building the structure of his life in a more concrete way because of his parents’ support and the training provide by his professor. He hopes to achieve that dream, maybe one day, although he is already living it up.
